Churchill's Secret Messenger

Alan Hlad is a local author of historical fiction who has successfully transitioned from working in the insurance industry to following his passion to be a ful time writer.  A graduate of Bowling Green University, Alan participated in the Akron Writers' Group, Literary Cleveland and the Historical Fiction Society.  His first novel (The Long Flight Home) was translated into 10 languages and resulted in a four book deal with Kenningston Press.

His newest book (Churchill's Secret Messenger) was released April 27 to excellent reviews (5 stars —Good Reads) and he will  share his new experience in researching and writing about World War II.  He can also clearly explain the behind-the-scenes work that goes into getting a book from initiall manuscript to the shelves of your local bookstore.  This time he introduces us to a young civilian woman recruited from Churchill’s steno pool for a behind-the-lines spying mission.  There is a French Resistance Fighter and Operation Jericho, a Royal Air Force (RAF) bombing raid on Nazi-held Amiens Prison in France. The objective of the mission—which took place on Feb. 18, 1944, one day before over one-hundred French Resistance prisoners were to be shot—was to breach the walls of the prison and free the captives.  He carefully weaves his characters into a real event with finesse.   The book is available at the Hudson Library and The Learned Owl Bookstore.
