August is the month for
Art on the Green, now in its 31st year. Sponsored by the Hudson Society of Artists (HSA), the event originally took place on the gazebo green, but within two years it moved to the more spacious south green at Rt. 91 and Ravenna Road.
According to HSA
Art on the Green Co-Chair Paul Adams, Hudson artist Hilary Sheeter had worked as a co-chair from the show's inception until four years ago. The co-chairs are now Adams and Cathy Welner, who started
Art on the Green during her tenure as HSA president.
Society of Artists members hail from a number of communities, and the organization is open to artists of all ages and abilities, professional and amateur, and to anyone interested in art, even if not creating it themselves.
Because
Art on the Green is a juried exhibit, the works presented were judged and selected based on their quality. The items include paintings in varied media, jewelry, pottery, woodcarvings, glass items, weaving, enamel items, sculptures, leather work, photographic art and other original creations. More than 150 artists from Ohio, Georgia and Florida will offer their products for sale.
The Rotary Club of Hudson has operated a food cart at
Art on the Green for a number of years, serving delicious brats and hot dogs, along with soda and water. The food is purchased from Hudson's Acme, and this year's booth will feature a number of Pepsi products. The Rotary food wagon is located next to the aromatic and popular Kettle Korn cart.
Members of the Rotary Club volunteer to staff the food wagon in shifts for the duration of the art show, and skilled Rotarian chefs tend the grills.
Art on the Green Chair Mike Buynak will send emails to club members reminding them of their shift times. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to the general fund for distribution by the Hudson Rotary Foundation on behalf of the club.
The 2010 Art on the Green is scheduled for Saturday, August 28, from
10 a.m to 5 p.m., and Sunday, August 29, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
