Auction and Reverse Raffle
"Service Above Self"
The 2012 Rotary Club of Hudson Auction and Reverse Raffle motto, Service Above Self, is a simple phrase that forms the hallmark of Rotary membership.
Minneapolis Rotarian Ben Collins inspired the original version, Service, Not Self, in 1911 at the National Association of Rotary Clubs of America second convention. In 1950, Rotary International (RI) adopted the current version, Service Above Self, as a motto.
The 1989 RI Council on Legislation established Service Above Self as the principal motto of Rotary because it best conveys the philosophy of unselfish volunteer service. Today, Rotarians worldwide live the principle of Service Above Self through their service projects.
This year's Auction and Reverse Raffle will benefit Hattie Larlham, the Hudson Food Pantry, Bob's Bikes, Hudson High School's Service Learning Class and Boy Scout Troop 321.
The fundraiser's tenet of Service Above Self can transcend Rotary to become a fundamental philosophy for every prospective donor, advertiser and Auction attendee we contact. With the enthusiastic participation of every Rotary Club of Hudson member, the spirit of Service Above Self can inspire our benefactors and make this year's Auction a grand success.
Auction and Reverse Raffle
Kick-Off
The Rotary Club of Hudson will kick off its 2012 Auction and Reverse Raffle at its weekly meeting on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
Every club member will receive a packet of Auction forms that includes the 2012 Rotary Auction Worksheet, Gift Donation Forms, a Team Assignment Roster, sponsor benefit level information, a sample of the Donor Letter and a list of his or her prospective donors.
The Auction Committee will mail the 500-plus Donor Letters on Wednesday, February 8, and club members should begin contacting their donors by Wednesday, February 15. Remember, one call is rarely enough and a personal visit is most effective.
